NORTH WEST TRI BADMINTON

 

 

At the end of January 3 teams of players from the Poynton Cell entered the North West Tri Badminton Tournament at Belle Vue Leisure Centre, Manchester organised by Badminton England.

It was an all day event and early start for us but worth the effort as we managed to get spaces in the car park.  Always good!

This proved to be a great day with over 30 teams, consisting of 4/5 players per team, entering the tournament and the venue was “buzzing”.  The teams played in groups, and each group produced quarter finalists.

Two of the Poynton teams topped their groups to secure us 2 teams in the quarter final stages. 

In the quarters one of our teams lost out by just 1 point “gutted” (sudden death at 20 all!) from reaching the semi final stages which was a fantastic achievement as our players do not play with plastic shuttles.  (We did have a sneaky practice at training for 2 sessions before!!).

The event was structured to incorporate singles and doubles and although the teams were mostly men there were teams with men and ladies and there was also a team of all ladies, which didn’t matter in the least because although it was very competitive everyone had fun!

Most of our players had not played a team event before and the support and camaraderie for each other was brilliant to watch.  They are all eager to play more team events.  

                                                                                                                                                                 

Well done to Badminton England for initiating this type of event – it was a great success.
