Matthew Nottingham - double Under 19 National Champion

Matthew Nottingham took the Men’s doubles (with partner Chris Coles from Avon) and the Mixed doubles (with Helena Lewczynska, Herts.) crowns at the under 19 Nationals over the weekend.

A slight knee injury prevented him from competing in all 3 events but this proved a blessing in disguise as he could concentrate on his main events.

Matthew will take this confidence booster into the Under 19 European Championships in Finland in April where he is hoping to win a team and individual medal.

Matthew’s only regret is that he cannot support Cheshire at the ICT!!

Mention must also be made of all Cheshire under 19 players who entered the Nationals.  Cheshire, along with Bucks., had the most entries which is very exciting for our future.

Excellent results were also achieved by Claire Weaver and Hayley Rogers who reached the quarter finals of the women’s singles.  Hayley in the semi-final of the ladies’ doubles, and George Li in the semi-final of the men’s doubles.
