New course in Chester for adults wanting to take up badminton

Seven-week training course is a 'fun way to keep fit'

28 March 2011

Badminton is a growing sport in Cheshire West and people can sign up for a new seven-week training course which begins on 9 May.

The sessions, based at the Cheshire County Sports Club in Chester, take place on Monday evenings between 6pm and 7 pm. The course costs £21 which works out at £3 a session.

Last year the Cheshire County Sports Club started playing host to a Back 2 Badminton programme organised with Badminton England and that has continued to offer adult men and women an opportunity to receive quality coaching in a fun and friendly environment.

The idea behind these sessions is to provide individuals with the opportunity to build confidence in a sport that they may have not played for several years.

To pre-book, individuals will need to contact the Cheshire County Sports Club direct on 01244 318167 or office@cheshirecountysports.co.uk.

“We have found that badminton is chosen by many people as a fun way to keep fit,” said Council Sports Development Officer Martin Barrett.

“Interested players are encouraged to sign up as places are limited and they can be for complete beginners or people who are returning to the sport after some years away.

“It really is a fun and cheap way to not only keep fit but to make new friends as well.”

In addition to the Back 2 Badminton sessions, the club has started a pay-and-play drop-in session where adults can turn up as and when they choose to play in a semi-competitive session against other like-minded players.

This session is part of the No Strings Badminton initiative developed by Badminton England providing opportunities to compete without the commitment of joining or being a member of a club. Although these sessions are a natural progression for those graduating from the Back 2 Badminton session, adults of all ages and abilities are encouraged to attend.

These sessions take place every Sunday evening from 6 to 7pm and cost £3 at Cheshire County Sports Club. A qualified coach is on-hand to organise the session and manage the schedule of games. Pre-booking is not required.
